Perm hosts the VIII International Сontemporary Music Festival «Sound 59»
Perm hosts the VIII International Сontemporary Music Festival «Sound 59» that opened on September 10. A research and practice conference will close the festival on September 22.
The International Contemporary Music Festival in Perm is a project of the Perm regional organization of the Union of Russian composers. Listeners will enjoy music by Russian and foreign composers as well as Perm composers’ new works, and will meet foreign composers, musicians and music experts.
The festival opened with the concert «Symphony premieres» that took place in the Perm Philharmonia‘s Grand Hall. The Great Symphony Orchestra of the Perm Ballet and Opera Theatre performed compositions by Dmitry Shostakovich, Viktor Pantus, Alexander Khubeev, and Nikita Shirokov.
The festival features 12 world premieres of young composers from different countries around the world as well as works by contemporary composers from Greece, Italy, France, and Russia. The ballet «Molyobka» will be performed by the Yevgeniy Panfilov Ballet.
The research and practice conference «The Issues of Contemporary Music» will take place in Perm State Humanities and Pedagogy University. Perm, Kudymkar, and Berezniki will each host Finnish musicians’ lectures, workshops and «meet-the-artist» events.
A concert by the Austrian pianist Albert Sassmann will take place at the festival’s closing ceremony on September 21.
